Technical note: Extending the SWAT model to transport chemicals through tile and groundwater flow

چکیده

Abstract. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is frequently used to simulate the transport of water-soluble chemicals in environment such as pesticides their metabolites originating from agricultural applications. However, model does not through subsurface tile drains groundwater. This limitation particularly significant lowland regions when simulating stable that can leach into accumulate To fill this gap, publicly available SWAT code was modified complement simulation by adding capabilities groundwater flow. extended tested two catchments with a typically pesticide one its metabolites. Results show mainly governed surface runoff shallow flow contributions be significant. Metabolite concentrations streamflow are, however, driven complex spatiotemporal interplay all components. highlights advantages applying catchment-scale environmental exposure studies for developing best management practices or mitigation strategies. new made an electronic supplement technical note.

Investigating future changes in groundwater quantity and quality in the Khash alluvial aquifer through numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modeling

The Khash alluvial aquifer, in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, supplies the water needed for agriculture, drinking, and industry in the Khash area. In order to predict the future status of groundwater level and water quality, and to find aquifer management solutions, groundwater flow and solute transport models were developed using MODFLOW and MT3DMS. GMS 10.3 was used to develop the model. Ca...

Mathematical Model of Unsteady Groundwater Flow Through Aquifers and Calibration Via a Non-Linear Optimization Technique

In this study, the general partial differential equation of unsteady groundwater flow through non-homogeneous and anisotropic aquifer was solved by the fully implicit finite difference method with control volume approach. The calibration of permeability and storage coefficients as model parameters was performed by a transformation technique and application of Powell's non-linear optimization me...

EOQ Model with Cash Flow Oriented and Quantity Dependent Under Trade Credits (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Inventory models in which the demand rate dependents on the stock- dependent are based on the common real- life observation that greater product availability tends to stimulate more sales. In this study we develop an inventory model to determine an optimal ordering policy for quantity dependent demand rate and time dependent holding cost items with delay in payments permitted by the supplier un...

Role of Groundwater Flow in Tile Drain Discharge

Tile systems drain water applied to agricultural fields as irrigation and precipitation but also may intercept regional groundwater flow. Identification and characterization of the potential sources of tile water is essential for informed management of salinity and contaminants. Factors influencing tile discharge including depth of water applied, evapotranspiration, water storage, drain blockag...

Use of Numerical Models to Simulate Groundwater Flow and Transport

In the past, the main driving force for hydrogeologic studies has been the need to assess the water-supply potential of aquifers. During the past 20 years, however, the emphasis has shifted from water-supply problems to water-quality problems. This has driven a need to predict the movement of contaminants through the subsurface environment. One consequence of the change in emphasis has been a s...
